What, exactly, is Kona Cotton?
Kona (R) is a premium cotton poplin cotton 100% compared to Robert Kaufman Fabrics in Los Angeles. The company presented the material in the 1980s in response to industry, while growing, quilt, interest which still continues unabated. It is a soft, light, often called the "Quilter's Cotton, who is also ideal for fine garments such as children's clothing, soft, comfortable shirts, dresses, implements and interior decoration. It has a "meat" hand, which means that you can really feel the difference when you touch the fabric and making it a joy to work with.

Warps. And the frames, too
Kona cotton has a 60 high by 60 inches to son. This means there are 60 string son son and 60 weft threads per square inch of fabric. Until I doing some research, I did not know that son of warp and weft are. (I had never even heard the word "frame".) A warp is a support wire in the loom, long and strong and usually tied down on the loom, a weft thread is passed back and forth between the son of chain to form a cloth. This high-wire, all these channels and wefts playing together, that make Kona cotton a soft, lightweight, while very resistant material, one of the finest fabrics woven by hand or available for the machine quilting.

Before use Care
It's a good idea to launder the cloth to remove any size / finish before using in your project. Treat it as you would any new 100% cotton fabric: Gentle wash, mild detergent, tumble low heat, remove promptly and iron. Expect about a shrinkage of 1-3%.

What color?
Kona is available in plenty of colors, 170 solid colors as the manufacturer's website, RobertKaufman.com. And a quick search on cotton hand dyed Kona will appear suppliers offering hundreds of colors and patterns of beautifully dyed Kona cotton fabric.

But you're not a seamstress?
Yes, I am a machine embroiderer and those same qualities that make it ideal for quilting cotton Kona and sewing apply to machine embroidery, too. This meat feel I mentioned, it is very easy to hoop and stabilize quickly. The push / pull factor is minimal and, especially, the designs are gorgeous sewn on it. Although many tissues there a less expensive, I test all my models embroidery on cotton Kona and turn to first for any embroidery project that I finished.
