The sorority began at Wesleyan Female College in the mid-1800s as a secret society for women. She was known as the Society Adelphean. A few years later another company was established on the same campus and a rivalry began. They are not called sororities at the time, but they operate in the name later. In fact, it was regarded as a fraternity to a sorority, but the word "Brotherhood" does not correspond to an entirely feminine and thus the word sorority was created. The first Greek sorority was named Phi Beta Pi in 1867.
Then in the 1870s the idea of rushing became popular. However, the rustle of origin was significantly different from today's rush. It is very popular for young women to rush some houses, and even more popular for girls sorority members for previous precipitate the same house. These members are considered legacy and will be admitted regardless despite having to go through the humility of art. Today Rush is a bit like a game of truth or dare. Promises have to do all sorts of different things to be accepted into the circle and almost be a slave to older sisters. But, once a member of the promises are full sisters and part of the sorority. And there is the brotherhood of clothing specially designed for fraternities.
Sororities and fraternities are now very popular on campus, as they allow new students a place to belong. Sisters and brothers are very close to houses and exercise, parties, and get involved in volunteer and charitable activities.
