The Egyptians are from the region known today as Ethiopia. They referred to the fertile Nile Valley as "Kemet" or "black earth" and said "hands-in-kemet 'or' people of the muck.

Clothes reflect the strictly hierarchical nature of Egyptian society and the social rank distinction. The quality of fabric noted the position of a person. The most commonly used for clothing woven flax was for it was light, thin and draped over the body.
